Filmmakers Mark Gould (Director) and Sally Ingleton (Producer) have just come back from India, where they hosted four special screenings of Tibet: Murder in the Snow.
The first, in Dharamsala, was held at the Tsuglagkhang temple - right in front of the Dalai Lama’s residence. The turn-out was much more than the pair had expected – earlier that day, locals helped spread the word with megaphones mounted to trucks that drove around the city broadcasting the free event. After the sun had gone down, there was a candlelight vigil for those suffering in Tibet and 2000 chanting monks and supporters made their way through the streets of Dharamsala to the temple and screening. All the refugees in the film were able to be there with their friends. Many were moved to tears, including the filmmakers, who were overwhelmed by thanks and applause.
Next Sally and Mark travelled to the Suja School - where young refugees Dolma Palki and Jamyang Samten attend. Together, the participants of the film, their friends and the local community watched the documentary.
Sally and Mark were able to discuss the Fund they have set up and explored how best we can help them in the future. Jamyang is keen to become a motor mechanic and Dolma is still uncertain about what she will do next. We were able to distribute the $1500 we had raised from the Sydney Chauvel screening to all the refugees in the film.
